GAUDÍ’s GREAT WORK OF CRAFTMANSHIP: THE TEMPLE OF THE SAGRADA FAMILIA IN BARCELONA

Antonio Gaudí, son of a tinker craftsman, was a big fan of the crafts. TICSA keeps craftsmanship today in its handmade tiles.

The figure of the craftsman lives associated with the own temple life. Gaudí, in addition to practice as an architect, was interested in the work at the workshop, reflecting the respect and admiration he felt for craftsmen, experts in many different subjects: stone carving, clay shaping, wood lathing, iron forging, and many other crafts. The continuity of the Gaudí times artisans is assured with today artisans, which also reflect the evolution of our society. Coming from many different countries and with an average age not reaching 40 years, they are largely women and live the Sagrada Familia (Holy Family) temple construction as a school of craftsmanship. In short, craftsmen have built the temple, from its origins until today, and they will continue to work until it is finished and even beyond, to ensure its maintenance, so that the figure of the craftsman has always been, and will be in the future, associated to the history of the temple.
